Making big decisions, my top 3 tips..

So this is a bit of a different post for me which isn't make up related (I hope that's okay?!) but I just felt I needed to talk about the past week with you and maybe share a few tips on how to make a big decision in your life.

So on Wednesday I was offered a new job. I hadn't applied for it nor had I expected it. It was a big shock to me and something that required a lot of thinking. Here's a few things I did/ realised that helped me make my decision.

A cup of tea and a list.

So I did what I do when making all life decisions these days, I poured myself a cup of tea and got out one of many note pads and made a list of pros and cons. I find this is the best way to have a clear thought process and make the most informed decision. I wrote down the salary, hours, days, and flexibility of each job role, and then what is expected of me in both my current position and the new position offered to me. This may seem to some people a time consuming idea but for me personally, I like to have my thoughts where I can see them in order to be able to have a clear mindset and a balanced thought process for both. And yes, I did eat these spaceships to enhance my thinking!

Act like you're advising a friend.

So this point sounds a little crazy but works wonders when put into practice. I asked myself a lot of questions, most of them starting with 'what if..' And answered them as if it wasn't my life that would impact from it. As we all know we try to give the most well rounded and supportive advice possible to our friends, so this was kind of nice because I was in a way, allowing myself to choose which option made me happiest. I answered a lot of the questions with, 'yes I will be happier not working as late' 'yes it would be good to spend more time blogging because of the hours of the new job'. I would recommend this trick to anyone because I think it gives a lot of self realisation that ultimately you need to make a decision based on how you will be happiest.

It's not the end of the world.

So finally, and this isn't really a tip as much as it is a fact. After all the pros and cons, what ifs, and cups of tea. It suddenly dawned on me. This decision is not the end of the world. Whichever option I choose, if it doesn't work out, can be changed. If you decide not to take the job and you regret it, apply for a similar one. If you take the job and regret it, look for a different one. It isn't life or death and it definitely isn't a decision to lose sleep over.

A member of my family always tells me, don't worry about tomorrow. What he means is you cannot be scared of what you don't know, so there is no point worrying about it. So in the end I took the new job. I start in two weeks and I am very excited. Onwards and upwards!

  1. Great tips, I agree we sometimes are our own enemy!
I think something I have learned over the last six months, is not everything is guaranteed!
So don't be scared if life hasn't turned out the way you expected, its probably because its preparing you for something better! My tip would be to take more risks, because if you play it safe then what's the fun in life! :) Great post

I'm going for an interview myself tomorrow but don't even know if I want that job :/
Your family member is certainly right, I'm starting to learn that life is too short to waste it on decision making, it can make you miss out on other things!!
